In the 2016-2017 school year, the Trust will once again partner with Fresno Unified School District to provide field trips for 3rd grade classrooms at over 30 FUSD schools. Each field trip is an outdoor education experience consisting of 3-4 activity stations, including nature walks, educational games or activities, and art or poetry. Education Docents volunteer their time to help run these field trips, assisting with set-up and running activities throughout the day. Field trips are scheduled Tuesday-Friday, typically from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm.
This training will focus on the 3rd grade field trip program and its associated curriculum. Attendees will be trained on the activities used during the field trip and associated NGSS correlations, will be provided background information on common environmental education topics, and will learn basic nature identification skills for local plants and animals.
Training will take place at the River Center (11605 Old Friant Rd) from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm. Materials and snacks will be provided. Time permitting we will also travel to Lost Lake Park and do the short nature walk at that site.
Education docents must be 18 years or older, or have a completed copy of the Trust's volunteer form signed by parent or guardian, to attend training.
