In conjunction with The Painters Group, the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art presents Brushstrokes, its biennial juried painting exhibition. This year’s exhibition was open to artists across California. The paintings will be on view from May 19 – July 2, 2017. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, May 20 from 3 – 5pm. Exhibition juror David Limrite had the task of selecting the best paintings from 241 artworks submitted by 109 artists. Watercolor, pastel, oil, assemblage, mixed media, encaustic, and computer generated artwork all fit within the application criteria, as long as the resulting artwork had at least 50 percent applied paint. Cash prizes and a Juror’s Award designation will be awarded for three artworks. David Limrite received a degree in fine art from San Diego State University and a degree in illustration from Art Center College of Design. He taught drawing and painting at Art Center College of Design and at the Brentwood Art Center where he was also the Director of Education for twenty-three years. He is a practicing artist who also teaches workshops and coaches other artists. The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, dedicated to the education, presentation and preservation of the visual arts on the Central Coast, is located at 1010 Broad Street, on the west end of Mission Plaza. Hours are 11am – 5pm daily. Closed Tuesdays through July 4. Free admission, donations appreciated. For more info visit SLOMA.org.
