Upcoming ArtHop Celebrates 25 Years of Parties for the Parkway

Feb 01, 2017 12:12PM ● By Melanie Heisinger

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust begins its celebration of 25 years of Parties for the Parkway Thurs., Feb. 2, with an ArtHop Reception for this year’s contributing artists. The free reception takes place from 5 to 8 pm at K-Jewel Art Gallery, 1415 Fulton St. in downtown Fresno.

This Thursday, February 2nd, 2017 marks the second 2017 Art Hop event of the year. There will be exciting artists all around town, so be sure to look out for them! For the River Parkway Trust, it's been an exciting 25 years so far, and they wanted to celebrate with a reception.

“It’s going to be a wonderful evening saluting these fine local artists with live entertainment, appetizers and beverages,” said Sharon Weaver, Executive Director of the Trust. “Many of the 60 pieces of art beautifully represent experiences on the San Joaquin River and also reflect our local lakes, wildlife and landscape. We are grateful to these generous artists for these outstanding pieces and for the commitment they’ve shown to the River Parkway Trust all these years.”

We were able to get ahold of the Director of Business Development for the River Parkway Trust, Finn Telles, and learn a little bit more about what to expect at their 25th Parties for the Parkway ArtHop Reception, as well as their Kickoff event in March.

What can someone expect at the upcoming ArtHop?

Bidding to purchase paintings in oil, watercolor and mixed media as well as photographs, sculpture, jewelry and glass pieces, will start the night of the reception. This will go on until March 9 at our Parties for the Parkway 25th Anniversary Kickoff at Clovis Veterans’ Memorial District Building. Tickets at $40 for Trust members and $45 for non-members are available starting Feb. 1 at 8:00 am online at or by phone at 559-248-8480

A handmade 20-ft. cedar canoe by the late craftsman Steve Farris also will be on display at the gallery. Tickets for a 25th anniversary special opportunity drawing for the canoe, valued at $5,000, will be on sale for $25 each.

This year will celebrate 25 years of Parties for the Parkway! Where do you see this program going in the future?

We plan to continue this program by working with past party hosts and artists as well as bringing in a new generation of artists and hosts. We hope this will bring fresh ideas and continue the appeal of this fundraiser.

The art donations and parties come together each year thanks to dedicated volunteers who help make connections in our community with local artists and party hosts. We are actively searching for new members to the Parties for the Parkway planning committee, both for the 2017 season and we will begin planning the 2018 season this summer.

**Please contact Finn Telles by email at or by phone at 559-248-8480x216 if you have any questions about volunteering.**

Is there anything else that we should know about this event?

We will be celebrating all of the local artists who have donated to this year’s auction and many of them will be present at the event for guests to be able to learn more about their art. Anyone from the general public can get involved by showing up to ArtHop on Thursday to view the art and make starting bids.

There will also be the option to “buy it now” on all of the art at a set price. It’ll be a great opportunity for attendees to meet other supporters who believe in our goal to help build and protect the San Joaquin River Parkway.

All proceeds from the sales of art and parties go 100% to the River Parkway Trust projects and programs along the San Joaquin River Parkway. The final auction will take place at the 25th Anniversary Kickoff Event on Thursday, March 9th.
